There has been a growing interest in “going green” over the past several years and all of us at Riddell Plumbing want to do our parts regarding conservation and recycling. We have recycled copper and water heaters for many years now but decided it was time to do more and have a waste assessment from our local recycling office. They were able to set us up to easily recycle all types of paper, cardboard, plastics and aluminum. We encourage everyone to contact the recycling office near you to see what program is available in your neighborhood to help you “go green”.
Riddell Plumbing is going green by being a participating member of Green Built North Texas. GBNT is a voluntary partnership of local home builders, industry supporters, and sponsors committed to creating awareness and interest in the construction of higher performance, lower impact residential homes in North Texas.
GBNT Builders and Riddell Plumbing install higher performance energy-efficient products. You can choose these same products when remodeling your home or when the time has come to purchase new products and appliances. The most energy-efficient models carry the Energy Star label and use 20 to 40 percent less energy than standard new products. According to the EPA, the typical American household can save about $400 per year in energy bills with products that carry the Energy Star.
“Go green” by going tankless! One of the biggest fads with today’s home-owners is the tankless water heater. Tankless have been known to conserve up to 50% of the water heater energy when used in place of conventional. Tankless water heaters are only in use when the hot water is in demand, unlike conventional water heaters that run constantly. Also tankless heaters are not going to leak or flood as conventional heaters have been known to do.
Riddell Plumbing can help you “go green” by upgrading your old toilets to new low flush toilets. About 40 percent of the water you use in your home gets flushed down the toilet. That amounts to more than 4 billion gallons of water in the U.S. each day. That’s why federal law now mandates that all new toilets installed for residential use be low-flush toilets. Even if you’re not building a new home you can benefit by having one of these new toilets installed. If you live in Dallas you may even qualify for The New Throne for Your Home toilet voucher program, it offers up to $90 per toilet to replace existing high-flow toilets with low-flow or High-efficiency toilet models.
Riddell Plumbing can also change out your old shower heads to low-flow showerheads. Showers account for 32 percent of home water use. Low-flow showerheads can deliver up to 2 gallons per minute less than standard shower heads. A family of four using low-flow showerheads can save about 20,000 gallons of water per year.
We can also install flow restrictor aerators in your faucets. Placing these inside faucets saves 3 to 4 gallons per minute when you turn on the tap. Of course you can save water by doing simple things such as not running water in the sink while soaping your face or brushing your teeth.
Stop the dripping! Let us repair those leaking and dripping faucets as soon as possible. A dripping faucet can waste up to 5 gallons of water per day.
At a time when our society is becoming more interested in eco-friendly and economical living we all want to do our part to conserve water and money. We also want our children to have peace of mind regarding the world’s water supply. Following the above tips on and conserving water will help save our planet and could also save you big bucks. If plumbing is not your forte why not let Riddell Plumbing help you “go green” by updating your plumbing system to be more eco-friendly.
